Did you all watch the 2017 Oscars last night?! While the wild, unexpected ending is probably what most people are talking about (#envelopegate) I am over here in awe of Halle Berry’s curls!

Halle rocked a gorgeous crown of curls and I just love that she provided some representation of curls and how beautiful they are. You don’t usually get to see woman rocking such a natural, in your face, curly do. I saw it and got excited to show my daughter after school the next day so she could see how lovely they were and hopefully it could help ensure some more confidence.

I had to find out what products she used so I did some research and found this InStyle Article that interviews the stylist, Castillo, and he explains what he used (summarized):

  1. He washed and conditioned with MOP Mixed Greens Shampoo & Conditioner.

  2. Added a dollop of MOP C-Curl Defining Cream and Lemongrass Volume Whip.

  3. Diffused her hair with the T3 Featherweight Dryer (with diffuser attachment).

  4. Enhanced her curls more with the T3 Twirl Curling Iron.

  5. Locked it all in place with MOP C-System Firm Finishing Hairspray.

Now… if you look at the prices of these items.. they aren’t exactly budget friendly so I did some research and found some comparable, cheaper, well-rated options via Amazon:

  1. Shea Moisture’s Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Shine Shampoo and Conditioner Set W/silk Protein and Neem Oil are highly rated and at less than $20 for the set much more affordable than more than that per bottle of the MOP shampoo and conditioner.

  2. Combine DevaCurl Styling Cream (less than $20) with Pantene Pro-V Curls Whip (less than $8) into hair while wet.

  3. Diffuse hair with the Xtava 2200 Watt Hair Dryer and Black Orchid Large Hair Diffuser Combo for less than $50 (MUCH LESS THAN $250 for the other one).

  4. Use another highly rated Xtava product: the xtava Twirl Curling Wand – Tapered Clipless Curling Iron with ½ to 1 Inch Tourmaline Barrel (less than $30 and almost 400 5-star reviews!) to enhance and touch up some of your curls (if you want.)
  5. Then set it all with the Matrix Biolage Styling Blue Agave Finishing Spritz Hair Spray (less than $13.)

So what is the price comparison of Halle Berry’s version vs The Mixed Mama’s Budget friendly version?

$545 vs (less than) $141 before taxes & shipping (some of the products I listed have free shipping, and if you have Amazon Prime? FREE 2-day shipping).
